The short version: Tare works entirely on your device. Tech Gravity collects no data from it. There is no server, no account, and no telemetry. Nothing you capture is sent anywhere unless you copy or save it yourself.

Data collection

Tech Gravity does not collect, receive, or sell any data from Tare. The extension makes no network requests: it has no backend, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising identifiers.

What Tare reads, and when

Tare only touches a page when you start a capture from its toolbar popup or a keyboard shortcut. At that moment it reads the tab you are on:

• A screenshot of the selected region, the visible area, or the full page.
• The page's address and title.
• The page's visible text inside the captured area (for full-page captures, the main content), up to 20,000 characters.
• The page layout, so it can hide cookie banners, ads, and popups before capturing and restore them right after.

It does not read pages on its own, never reads other tabs, and never accesses your browsing history.

What Tare stores on your device

Tare keeps the following in your browser's local extension storage. None of it is synced or uploaded:

• Your settings (theme, accent, region mode, clean level).
• Your 8 most recent captures: the image, plus its page address, title, extracted text, size, and token estimates. Older captures are deleted automatically when a new one is taken.

To delete everything Tare has stored, remove the extension from Chrome. Chrome erases its local storage when you do.

Copying and saving

Images and Markdown leave Tare only when you click a copy or save button. Copying places them on your clipboard, and saving writes PNG or Markdown files through Chrome's download manager to your chosen download folder. The Markdown export includes the page title, address, and extracted text. What you do with it next, including pasting it into an AI tool, is between you and that tool.

Permissions

• activeTab: access the current tab only when you start a capture.
• scripting: inject the capture overlay and cleanup scripts into that tab on demand.
• storage: keep your settings and recent captures on your device.
• downloads: save exported PNG and Markdown files.

Tare requests no host permissions, no access to all sites, and no access to your tabs list or history.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Tare's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide Tare's single purpose, is not transferred to anyone, and is never used for advertising, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to that function.

Changes

If Tare ever starts handling data differently, for example by adding sync, this policy will be updated before that version ships.
